The Infinite Man (2014)

The Infinite Man follows Dean, a scientist who tries to create the perfect anniversary weekend for his girlfriend, Lana. When things go wrong and she leaves with her ex-boyfriend Terry, Dean uses a time machine to go back and fix his mistakes. However, his repeated attempts to alter events trap him in a self-perpetuating cycle where multiple versions of himself interact across different points in time. As he becomes entangled in his own timeline, the film explores the consequences of recursion, causal loops, and the struggle between control and inevitability.

Time Travel Concepts

Causal Loop

Dean’s attempts to correct his mistakes result in events playing out exactly as they did before, with his actions ensuring the same mistakes happen in a loop.

Bootstrap Paradox

Dean’s future selves give instructions to his past selves, leading to events that have no clear point of origin, as each version of himself influences the next.

Predestination Paradox

Every attempt to change the past only ensures that events unfold as they originally did, making his actions an essential part of an already-written timeline.

Immutable Timeline

Dean’s repeated interventions fail to create a different outcome, showing that the timeline is fixed, and all his attempts at change are already accounted for.

Iterative Divergence

Although Dean repeats events multiple times, each iteration leads to subtle variations, showing how different choices slightly alter the course of events but ultimately reinforce the loop.
